Nowadays, our lives have become so busy with our jobs and personal responsibilities, particularly during Covid, that we often overlook the importance of our health. However, one ingredient that you can incorporate and in your daily life to avoid any diseases is turmeric. Turmeric is one of the most effective ingredients in any of the home remedies to prevent a variety of ailments. Curcuma longa is the root where turmeric came from and one of its active ingredients is curcumin which is anti-inflammatory and gives turmeric its yellow color. Turmeric has numerous health benefits and is a versatile ingredient. In this blog I will share with you the health benefits and uses of turmeric.

  • Controls blood sugar level
  • Helps in weight loss
  • Good for your skin
  • Improves memory and mood
  • Helps to get rid of acne
  • Builds your immune system
  • Prevents breast cancer
  • Helps to recover wounds

WHO SHOULD AVOID TURMERIC:

People with the following conditions should avoid using turmeric and if you still want to consult your doctor first.

  • Diabetes
  • Gallbladder problems
  • Bleeding disorder
  • Liver diseases
  • Pregnant & Breastfeeding women

USES OF TURMERIC:

1. Turmeric & Honey water:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of  water
  • ½ tsp turmeric 
  • ½ Lemon (optional)
  • Honey

Process:

Pour warm water in a glass and add ½ tsp of turmeric in it. Then squeeze half a lemon into it and finally add honey. Drink this at least 30 minutes prior to having your breakfast. 

Benefits of turmeric water:

  • Boosts your immune system, 
  • Helps to recover from cold and flu
  • Aids in weight loss

Tip– Add honey instead of sugar as a healthier alternative (Benefits of Honey)

2. Turmeric milk:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of milk
  • ¼ tbsp spoon turmeric
  • Pinch of keser ( optional)
  • 1 tbsp honey

Process:

In a pan add one cup of milk and kesar and bring it to boil. Once it gets boiled, turn off the gas and add turmeric. Let the drink cool down a bit and then add honey 

Benefits of turmeric milk:

  • Having before bedtime can improve your quality of sleep 
  • Helps to fight cold and flu
  • Good for your brain as it helps to improve your memory.

3. Turmeric Face Mask:

Ingredients:

  •  1tbsp Gram flour or Besan
  •  1 tbsp raw milk
  •  ½ tsp turmeric 
  •  1 tsp honey

Process:

In a bowl add 1 tbsp of gram flour followed by turmeric, honey and raw milk. Mix all the ingredients till it becomes a thick paste and then leave it on for about 10 minutes or till it dries completely. Once the mask dries, pat your face with a bit of water and gently start scrubbing off the mask in circular motion. After scrubbing, wash your face once and then pat it dry using a towel.

Benefits of turmeric face mask:

  • Helps to reduce hyperpigmentation
  • Helpful in reducing acne 
  • Prevents skin aging 
  • Cleans clogged pores 
  •  Makes your skin glowing

Note: Use less quantity of turmeric in the face mask to avoid the yellow stains on.
