Healthy Masala Uttapam Recipe

Uttapam is a South Indian breakfast dish which is made of yogurt, semolina and different spices. There are many varieties of uttapam such as onion uttapam, vegetable uttapam, simple uttapam, tomato uttapam, masala uttapam and many others. In this blog I will share with you how to make a delicious and nutritious masala uttapam in two simple steps. So let’s get started!


  • 35.1 gram capsicum
  • 1 small onion
  • Half medium tomato
  • 2 green chilies
  • 6.8 gram coriander
  • 4-5 tbsp oats
  • 122 gram soji
  • 155 gram yogurt
  • 300 ml of water
  • Salt (according to taste)
  • 1 spoon kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1 spoon grind cumin seed powder
  • Pinch of black salt


Step 1 of 2: Preparing the batter

  1. In a bowl add all the ingredients and mix well. Then set it aside for 10 minutes

Step 2 of 2: Making uttapam

  1. In a pan add 1 tbsp oil and let it heat. After that add 4 tbsp of the batter and spread it evenly, make sure that the batter is a bit thick. 
  2. Then cover the pan with a lid and cook it on medium gas for about 2-3 min. 
  3. After 2-3 minutes flip the uttapam to cook the other side for about 3-4 minutes. 
  4. Once both the sides are golden brown, take it out on a plate and it’s ready to serve.
