Eggless Malai Cake Recipe| How to Make Malai Cake

Malai cake is an Indo-Western dessert. The texture is so soft and spongy that it will easily melt in your mouth. This delicious recipe can be made using just a few ingredients. Let me show you how to make malai cake in 4 easy steps.


  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp elaichi powder
  • ½ liter milk
  • 3 tbsp sugar for malai
  • 2 tbsp vanilla custard powder
  • 1 tbsp corn flour
  • Sliced almonds
  • Sliced pistachios


Step 1 of 4: Making sugar syrup

In a pan add half cup water, 1 cup sugar and 1 tsp elaichi powder. Cook this for a while and once the sugar has dissolved properly turn off the gas.

Step 2 of 4: Making malai

In another pan add ½ liter milk and 1 tbsp sugar and then bring it to a boil. After that add 2 tbsp of vanilla custard powder and 1 tbsp corn flour. Then cook it till the milk becomes thick.

Step 3 of 4: Layering the malai cake

Once the malai and sugar syrup has been made we will start layering the cake. Start by placing cake rusk toasts in a square container. Then add one layer of sugar syrup evenly on the toast followed by one layer of malai. Then add another layer of cake rusk followed by a layer of sugar syrup and malai.

Step 4 of 4: Serving

Once the cake has been layered, keep it in the fridge for about 1 hour for it to set. Take it out after 1 hour and it’s ready to serve.
